Dear Darrel,

I hope these words find you in a good shape physically, emotionally, and most importantly: spiritually. If not, I hope these words will help you with the latter. At first, I would like to tell you what your music means to me and how it impacted my spiritual communion with God forever:

Long ago, as a Christian, I was very attached to worldly music. Nothing I would do would make me succeed in detaching myself from them even when I wanted. These songs were like poison to my soul, weakening my communion with the Lord but, strangely, I couldn’t listen to any other type of song. Even when I tried to listen to gospel songs I couldn’t succeed in loving them. It was like my soul was rejecting them and pushing them away. Then, I did something very important: Instead of trying to fight with my own strength, I yielded to God in prayer every day about the matter. As a Christian, I wouldn’t accept the fact that godly music couldn’t touch my soul. Then one day, I stumbled on a gospel song playlist on YouTube, and the song “Praise Goes To You” was the first on the list. I loved it so much that after I listened to it I started searching about the Walls Group all over the internet. I would watch all of the videos you guys recorded while at home and listen to every music. Then, slowly, I was getting in love with gospel music, and before I know it, all of my devices were full with godly music, and I couldn’t listen to anything else in my ears. And as if it was not enough, my interest in music grew, and I started learning music and I made some awesome progress. Every time I would hear you sing, especially in your personal worship sessions I would catch such a fire for God and I would desire to worship and get close to him more. It would be fair to say that to me, you became like a personal worship leader. Your desire for more of God and your knowledge of Him were so obvious and made me desire to be so much like you and I would talk about you every time I had the chance.

Then after years of enjoying every music you did and every worship session, I heard about the sex tape and the rumor that you were also gay. For the sex tape, I won’t go into it since I am not sure it is you on the video. But for the gay part, I wouldn’t believe it at first until I saw the video. I’ve seen it, and I was shocked and confused… It is important to say that I don’t agree with the circumstances that led to this video being leaked. But I know one thing: Only the Devil would enjoy the confusion and the pain it has brought to you and a lot of your fans all over the world. Additionally, you are being bashed, mocked, and ridiculed by a bunch of judgmental Christians who are sinners just like you. At the same time, It is not surprising that you are being attacked because your ministry has inspired a lot of people! On the other hand, I do believe that God, who loves you a lot, allowed it to happen for a reason.

Now in the video, You were smiling and kissing a man of the same sex as you and clearly, you were enjoying it. I am not necessarily shocked by the fact that you are a Christian who was secretly struggling with homosexual feelings but rather I am shocked by the fact that you embraced these feelings so much to publicly display them instead of working on overcoming them despite your clear knowledge of the Word of God. I believe that no matter how strong these feelings might be in you, they are not you. I would also say the same if you were struggling with fornication/adultery. These are feelings. But they are not who God says you are. The World says otherwise but only what’s in The Word of God matters. In it, God clearly forbids for a man to lay with a man as with a woman and in both the new and the old testament it is depicted as a sin. We don’t know the full extent of why God does not want that but He forbids it. This means this is not His plan for you. Which means He did not give you these feelings. Are they strong? Certainly. But can you overcome them? With the power of God yes. How? Using self-deliverance or going to somebody who can do it for you. I won’t go into details about self-deliverance and the deliverance ministry, for it is one of the most controversial subjects to go into these days (the Devil has made sure of that), not to bring confusion to the reader but I’m sure you know a bit about deliverance and God will meet you powerfully if you are willing to go there.

That being said, homosexuality is not bigger of a sin than any other one but it is a sin nonetheless. I say this in love. And my love and appreciation for you cannot allow me to tell you otherwise under the excuse that Love is Love. Love can be perverted just like any other thing in this world. The Devil’s job is just that: To Pervert God’s work. Love is Love but remember: Sin is Sin. Unconfessed sin and/or a sin that is not repented of will ultimately separate you from the God you love so much. God hated sin so much that He allowed his Son to sacrifice His life to separate us from it. That alone, tells you how much He hates sin and How much he loves you. People love to quote the Bible and say nothing can separate us from God. Well, biblically sin has done just that. The bible clearly states that homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God. Let’s not put God’s Word to the test.

My words could and will be probably twisted to mean that I don’t love homosexuals. I do love them. As a matter of fact, I love you. I also do not condemn you for we are all sinners. Jesus did not condemn the woman caught in adultery, but he did say to her: “Go and sin no more”. I say the same to you, my brother. I also say it to me and every other Christians on the planet. Let’s live up to God’s standards. That’s the only way we can be fulfilled. Do so, and God will bless you more than He has ever had. The fact that you were able to bless so many people while voluntarily sinning is one sign that your potential is not even half achieved. Your gift glorified God. Let your lifestyle do the same.

With much love, from Haiti. From a brother who isn’t perfect.

Bible Verses About Homosexuality:

Leviticus 20:13 — If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads

1 Corinthians 6:9 — Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals.

Romans 1:26–27 — For this reason, God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
